I enjoyed the game, but it didn’t really click for me. The soundtrack, though? Absolute fire. It’s on a whole other level.
What other games do you think are like this, where the music outshines the gameplay?

I think the game itself is pretty good, though.

Yeah, I feel like it’s not a great example. Imagine if someone tried to say this about Hotline Miami… that’d be even worse.
@Kai
Agreed. Hotline Miami is insane. Love the game, 10/10, but man, the difficulty spike from the first game to the second one is brutal.

I couldn’t beat Hotline Miami 2. Got absolutely skill-checked and gave up.
@Kai
I did finish it, but it was rage-inducing. Worth it, though.

I’m used to running into walls in games and just trying over and over, but it’s so frustrating. Feels like the definition of insanity sometimes.
@Kai
Same here. I actually took a two-year break after getting stuck on Dead Ahead in Hotline Miami 2. That level made me feel like Pardo.
@Kai
Hotline Miami is absolutely a 10/10 game, and the soundtrack somehow keeps up with it.

My brother introduced me to Hotline Miami, and I didn’t get into it at first. When it became free on PlayStation Plus, I gave it another shot. Hooked instantly.
@Kai
A game doesn’t have to be bad for the soundtrack to outshine it, though. I hear the club theme from Katana-Zero all over the place, even in videos completely unrelated to the game.

True, but I think the way OP said it makes it sound like Katana-Zero isn’t fun to play. The soundtrack being popular doesn’t mean the game is bad.

Honestly, I think the game overshadows the soundtrack.

It felt more like a demo than a full game to me. I finished it in just a couple of hours.

Not every game needs to be a 100-hour grind. This one tells its story and wraps up when it’s done.
@Dare
I don’t know if I’d call it wrapped up. The story feels incomplete, like it’s just Episode 1. A lot of plot points are left hanging, like the key card the protagonist never uses. It feels like there’s supposed to be more, and I hope the DLC delivers.
@Dare
Yeah, it ends on a cliffhanger, and we’re still waiting for the follow-up. Feels like the story barely got started.
The gameplay and story are awesome, so I don’t really get the point you’re making.
I think Katana-Zero is a poor example. The game’s great.
Now, if we’re talking about games where the soundtrack outshines the game… how about some of the Sonic games or Megaman X7?
For me, it was Bastion. The gameplay didn’t grab me, but the soundtrack is a masterpiece.
