Played DayZ mod years back with some friends, and it was fun… but the bugs eventually ruined it for us. Stopped playing since then, so it’s been a while. Has it finally been fixed up? Would anyone here recommend getting into it today?
Honestly, DayZ mod days were the peak for this game.

Yep, those were the good old days… like back in 2011 or so.

Same here. Playing DayZ mod taught me how to read maps really well. Still got memories of those sessions.
@Zia
Remember navigating Chernarus just with a compass and street signs? I know that map too well now. Ran into a friendly player once… played through the whole mod, into early standalone… but then life got busy. Just reconnected with a friend over DayZ after a decade.
@Zia
Now that you mention it, I think that’s why I’m so good at reading maps now. Just figured out how to look at blueprints or maps and know where I’m going.

Nostalgia is nice, but I’d say DayZ is actually better now than the mod ever was. Way more gear options, buildings you can enter, weapons… everything got upgraded. The vehicles might still be glitchy, but they were also glitchy back then.
@Blake
Depends on what you’re after. DayZ mod was easier as a looter-shooter… you didn’t need to go far for gear, and you could survive against geared players with basic stuff. Standalone’s way more about survival.
@Foster
Yeah, but if you want that classic feel, just play on a modded server. Base game’s definitely more balanced now.

Not sure why people are downvoting you for sharing facts… I’ve got your back!
@Foster
You can still get all that in DayZ standalone now, but with survival aspects added too.
@Blake
Funny, I reinstalled it recently and still found buildings you can’t enter. It’s like nothing changed in five years.

You can actually get inside all buildings on Chernarus now. Not every room is open, but it’s way better than it was in the mod.

Most of the map is open… cities have some locked spots, but for an open-world game this size, it’s pretty good. Mod was nowhere near this level.
@Blake
Last time I tried it, I barely saw any zombies after an hour of exploring. Still the same?

Depends on the server. If everyone’s hanging around the coast, zombies might be scarce. Normally, you’ll see a few.
@Blake
The shooting mechanics still feel off… it’s like there’s a delay or something. Kills the experience for me.

Been an issue since Arma days, and it carried over to games like PUBG too. Feels clunky because of bad design mixed with network issues.

Looking back through rose-colored glasses. I had a lot of fun too, but the game was worse back then compared to standalone now.

Some of my best gaming memories. I even joined a cross-server rescue team back in the day… good times!
