Playing GTA 3 on my phone feels surreal. I never finished it as a kid, but here I am in my 30s finally getting to the second island. Using a PS5 controller and an emulator, it’s been a mix of nostalgia and new discoveries.
Isn’t it hard to play on a phone?

Not really, as long as you use a controller. I’m playing on my phone but with a PS5 controller, and it’s a game-changer.

Same here. Tried keyboard and mouse, but the game didn’t recognize them. The controller makes it so much easier.

Wait, you can connect a PS5 controller to your phone? How do you set that up?

That mission dialogue always cracks me up: “I know a spot at the docks, but you better snipe, bro.” Classic.

Took me so many tries to swipe perfectly on the screen just to hit all those guys on the boat. Controllers make a huge difference.

Chatterbox is where it’s at. “You ever eaten possum? Cooks up real good!”

Pigeons are like fortune cookies with wings. Who writes this stuff?

Never realized Flashback FM was just Scarface soundtrack songs. Blew my mind.

The fake commercials between songs were gold. Flashback FM, Rise FM during chases, and Lips 106… so much nostalgia.
Pro tip: Get all the hidden packages every time you reach a new area. It’ll save you a ton of trouble later.

Also, do the side missions early. Firefighter, paramedic, and police missions give you great bonuses.
@Monty
Be careful, though. Avoid doing them in areas where gangs are hostile to you, or it gets messy fast.
@Monty
Yeah, especially once the mafia starts using shotguns. Doing side missions becomes almost impossible in some areas later on.
For context: I’m emulating the PS2 version on my Samsung S23 using NetherSX2. Playing with a PS5 DualSense controller clipped to the phone. It’s like having a portable PS2.

Why not just play the native Android port?
@Campbell
No specific reason, really. I’m also playing other PS2 exclusives and just decided to start with GTA 3. I’ve already completed San Andreas on PC and Android before.

How do I get NetherSX2?
