I came across some old clips of the game Driver that I recorded with my older brother about 20 years ago. We used to mess around with the glitchy physics to pull off some epic jumps. Hope you enjoy these highlights!

This couldn’t have been recorded 20 years ago. The PS1 came out in 2000, and back then, recording software like this didn’t exist. Plus, the graphics were really pixelated. This must have been emulated or something.
Exactly, that’s how it was! I remember doing the same thing with a friend when we were kids. We’d make short movies from our playthroughs, finding crazy camera angles and laughing our heads off watching the clips later. So much fun! But I don’t remember being able to do this in Driver 1… maybe it was in Driver 2 where you could record, edit, and save to a memory card. Those moments were awesome, but sadly we lost the footage over the years.
@Zen
Sounds fun! You could change camera angles even in Driver 1 too (called ‘You Are the Wheelman’ in the US). Sad you don’t have the footage anymore, I would’ve loved to see it!
What software/hardware did you use to record? These clips look super smooth with no noticeable compression.

PC capture cards were around since the late '90s. Some had component inputs, so you could hook up a console and record directly onto your PC. They were pretty expensive though.

Yeah, I was more into using unregistered Hypercam 2 or Fraps back in those days.

Why does every playthrough always end like this…
Fake. The entire game takes place in a parking garage.
Wow, this looks amazing! Are you using any visual enhancements? I remember playing a demo years ago and being surprised by how sharp the graphics were.

I don’t think so, I just run the game’s original EXE from the disc. Maybe some GIF post-processing stuff, not sure.
How did you manage to capture such clean gameplay back in 2004?

I think they mentioned earlier that they were able to “play” the replays today, so I guess they were talking about the game’s internal clips.

FRAPS existed back then, that’s probably how they did it.

Haha, I must’ve gotten a terrible version of FRAPS back then. My clips looked awful!
