Donnie Yen confirms Sleeping Dogs movie canceled… no more hope?

It’s official. Donnie Yen has confirmed the Sleeping Dogs movie is no longer happening. What a bummer. This franchise deserved so much more.

The Sleeping Dogs curse strikes again. Such a great game, and now no continuation at all. RIP.

Guess they’re really letting sleeping dogs lie.

No, these dogs were put to sleep :pensive:.

True Crime and Sleeping Dogs… two franchises that deserved way better.

Feels like studios are scared to dive into crime games anymore. It’s mostly just GTA and Yakuza holding the genre now.

@Jody
Don’t forget Mafia. A new one is on the way.

At least Triad Wars had a closed beta for a while, even if it wasn’t great.

I feel the curse too. It’s like Wei Shen got left in limbo forever. The game deserved so much better.

Not even a pork bun could cheer me up now.

None of us will ever be whole men…

‘Pok gai’ literally means ‘falling on the street,’ but it’s used as an insult, kind of like calling someone an asshole in Cantonese. Source: I speak Cantonese.

@Storm
I always thought it referred to someone falling from a height, like getting pushed out a window. That’s why ‘chuen ka pok gai’ (whole family falls) is such a harsh curse.

Good point! It’s true the meaning can vary depending on the context. Also, in Cantonese romanization, it’s usually ‘tsuen ka pok gai,’ not with the Mandarin Q sound. But yeah, it’s one of those insults that sticks.

Forget the movie. Just give us a sequel already!

True Crime franchise died too soon. Sleeping Dogs was originally True Crime: Hong Kong before it got revived with a new name.

We’re never getting a sequel. The studio is gone.

Exactly! Forget Hollywood—just bring back Wei Shen. I’d preorder that sequel without hesitation.

Honestly, a TV series might’ve been better than a movie. Also, am I the only one who thought Donnie Yen was too old to play Wei Shen?
