I had a hard time remembering the capital cities in Asia back in high school, so I found a creative way to study. I decided to add the capitals to a Heroes of Might and Magic 3 map to help me learn. Eventually, it became a fun way to study and play at the same time. Has anyone else found clever ways to mix learning with games?

People should really only use acronyms after the full name has been said.

Ah yes, Hearts of… MIronight and MIronagic 3
I recently played this again via a fan port to PSVita. Dang, I spent ages doing random maps on this with Winamp in the background. I also picked up Hero’s Hour recently, it’s an indie-inspired game with the same DNA as HoMM.
@Kai
Winamp: it really whips the llama’s ass.
@Kai
I haven’t played Hero’s Hour, but I heard mixed things about it since it’s not quite the same as HoMM due to real-time combat. Songs of Conquest is closer and plays well if you’re looking for something similar but don’t want to do more HoMM.
@Bell
I gave up on Songs of Conquest after about 6 hours. It seemed like each stage was scripted rather than having an overworld AI. When the maps started to get tough, it felt more like learning steps for a dance than having a dynamic battle, and I stopped enjoying it.
To be fair, I didn’t get far enough to judge properly. Maybe it’s different later on, or maybe the game does this on purpose to keep things challenging.
@Bell
I’ve always had fun with Hero’s Hour over the past few years. Combat is great but CPU heavy, and the rest of the game is literally just HoMM3 but with fewer items and more factions/hero abilities.
@Kai
Yeah, I come back to this game every now and then, and it never gets old somehow
That’s such a clever use of the game! It makes me really want to boot up my copy. One of the greatest!

Do you still have the map available somewhere? Been on an HoMM3 kick lately.
This reminds me of a Calvin & Hobbes strip where his parents ask why he doesn’t do better on tests when he knows so much about dinosaurs, and his answer was, they don’t ask me about dinosaurs.
Golden dragons in China and holy cows in India, seems legit.
Hope you have expert logistics to get around this map.
Very creative! That’s such a clever way to combine studying with something you enjoy!
