Shuhei Yoshida brings back the famous 'sharing games' moment with Stellar Blade director… thoughts?

Man, back in the NES and SNES days, sharing games like this was how you made friends. ‘What game do you have? Oh, can I borrow it when you’re done? Cool!’ That was the vibe.

I was still doing this up through the Xbox 360 days. Loaned my friend ODST after finishing it.

Just a small note: it’s you’re done, not your done.

Remember when online play was free? Ah, the good old days.

Didn’t Xbox start charging first? Sony just followed along later.

@Valen
Yeah, Xbox always charged for online. Sony held out until the PS4 era. Nintendo even longer. PC’s still free though, thankfully.

It’s wild that consoles lock so much behind paywalls. Just let people play their games online without extra charges!

Exactly. Why are we paying to use the internet we already pay for?

I’d bet if consoles could charge for single-player features, they would. Greed never stops.

Steam doesn’t charge because their setup is entirely different. But consoles use that ‘ecosystem’ excuse to charge for everything.

@Payne
Steam still offers voice chat and messaging, though.

@Valen
Xbox should be the first to drop online fees entirely. It’s long overdue.

Would they really do that, though? They started the whole thing.

@Valen
Yep, it was Xbox first.

It’s like the headphone jack all over again. First, one company removes it, then everyone does.

Actually, Sony still offers a version with a disc drive. Xbox’s Series S is fully digital.

@Finley
But you pay extra for the disc version on PlayStation. Feels like a cash grab.

@Finley
Sony’s ‘Pro’ edition doesn’t even come with a disc drive by default. It’s ridiculous.

@Finley
Sony absolutely sells a digital-only console. Let’s not rewrite facts.

At least removing the headphone jack led to better wireless tech. What does removing the disc drive give us? Nothing.
