Although everyone remembers Rainbow Six Vegas with nostalgia, I thought it was a significant step down from 3 and, with the third-person elements, felt like a completely other series at the time. 3 offered some exciting multiplayer and was the ideal balance of casual and tactical. I’m sorry if I’m rehashing something you all see frequently, but I never see anyone mention Rainbow Six 3 or even show them any affection. That game still has elements that look better than Siege did when it was first launched. It’s fantastic, so please give it a try sometime.
In a fan of Vegas 2. Terrorist hunt with friends on realistic hit different
So true. It’s a shame the servers are shut down. A buddy and I were really craving some Vegas 2 terrorist hunt.
I swear that I have played a few online matches since purchasing Vegas 2 in November 2023, so I must be having hallucinations. I can still clearly recall playing on a few maps with the few others who were online.
A few years ago, I recall returning to Terrorist Hunt with a friend. I have no idea how things are now, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the servers were finally gathering dust.
Yo, I scratched that itch years ago with Insurgency: Sandstorm and Ground Branch. Both have a terrorist hunt PvE with co-op, and they feel just as good as Vegas 2 did.
People don’t realize it because of Halo 2, but Rainbow Six 3 and Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow were THE Xbox Live games before Halo 2. Honestly, I had just as much fun in that era as I did during the Halo era. It was an absolute blast. I can still hear the echoes of that terrible, in-era Xbox Live voice chat on Presidio to this day.
Black arrow was definitely one of the best gaming experiences for younger me.
Same here. Rainbow Six 3 was my first real experience with competitive online shooters, and it’s also where I made my first online friends. There was this entire family that played Big Erik 7, Erik 7, Tracy 7, and a couple of others. It was really cool, and it became the foundation for the Seven clan, which I carried on across multiple consoles and games. At one point, we had about 300 members in GTA V. I also remember Baked Helvis and Captn Spalding two older guys with strong Southern accents who just laughed non-stop and never took the game too seriously. Rainbow Six 3 and Black Arrow were fantastic games, but for some reason, I don’t have as many clear memories of them, even though I know I played them all the time.
It is incredible that we can still recall those men’s names from so long ago. JBizzle, PaperCut, and Boxstrongo were my pals. We played together in RB6:BA, one of the Xbox versions of Battlefield, and Halo 3 (we were in the top 10 clan leaderboards before the reset). After that, everyone grew up. Bizzle enlisted in the Army, Boxstrongo and I attended college, and PaperCut abruptly stopped appearing online.
I am old as hell, but playing the original Rainbow Six in 3v3 on MPlayer was peak R6. Oil, AV, and Mint were the best maps. The game was 80% using the heartbeat sensor and staring hard at the mini-map, 20% camping, and 100% complaining about lag.
Green ping games with a low latency of 350 ms are found by Mplayer. Getting angry and playing 2v2v2 BGH ONLY WITHOUT RUSH in StarCraft.
250ms meant the host had DSL. Under 250ms was Cable and under 150ms was “T1”. Bonus points if you were doing league/ranked play on MXL or XL2k.
