Warzone is the reason why the file sizes are out of control. If you just want to play multiplayer or the campaign, you should be able to download only that. But for some reason, Warzone is always a mandatory install.
On top of that, every Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare 2019 seems to be designed with Warzone in mind. Until Warzone is separated, we probably won’t see any new gameplay innovations, like jetpacks or specialists coming back. They need everything to fit the Warzone formula.
I wish Call of Duty and Warzone were two totally separate games. Let Call of Duty go wild with its own ideas, and keep Warzone as the cash cow it is.
Why am I downloading a game I didn’t uninstall? Why is Black Ops 6 multiplayer installed when I didn’t ask for it? Why is it showing 130GB when I didn’t even have MW3 installed yet? And why is it 170GB after installing just the one game I wanted? This is ridiculous. I’m on the verge of uninstalling everything.
@Haven
Do it. Seriously, you’ll feel way better. The modern gaming industry’s expectation that you should dedicate all your time and money to one game is burning people out. Games are supposed to be fun. You play, enjoy it, and move on. No need to come back just because they add some silly new weapon or emote. Don’t let them control when you’re done.
@Clove
Exactly. I quit Warzone a year ago and now I’ve played through like 10 other games that I’ve really enjoyed. It’s crazy how much time I wasted grinding Warzone.

It’s like Apex. I quit Warzone easily because I never found it that good anyway.
@Whit
That’s kind of how every multiplayer live service game is, though. Overwatch, League, Dota 2, Valorant, Fortnite… You’ve got to pace yourself with these games. I get what you mean though. You keep grinding, even when it’s not fun anymore, just to rank up or finish the battle pass. Overwatch got so toxic for me, I had to step away and play something else like God of War.
@Joss
I do the same. I play The Finals once every couple of weeks with friends, and it’s great. They add XP boosts toward the end of the season, so I don’t always finish the battle pass, but I still get most of the stuff I want. The cosmetics are some of the best I’ve seen, and it’s a really fun game, so I don’t mind supporting them. Too bad the game isn’t more popular, but at least it didn’t die on launch like Concord.
@Sloan
Glad to hear The Finals is still going. It filled a niche that people were craving, even if it came a bit late with so many hero shooters already around.

What makes The Finals stand out is its destructible environment. That’s not something you see every day in FPS games anymore.

Yup! They just said season 4 has been their best for player retention so far. Things are looking up!
@Joss
At least with Apex, I don’t have to figure out what’s being downloaded onto my system. With Warzone, I had to Google how to install JUST Warzone.

I quit right after the peak Warzone during the COVID lockdowns. CoD is going to have to work hard to get me to sink time into their games again.

Same here. I also distanced myself from a lot of toxic people after quitting.
@Ellis
Live service games are breeding grounds for toxicity. It’s all about one-upping everyone, whether in the game or in life. Even if you mute them, they’ll find ways to grief you. And there’s little to no punishment unless you do something incredibly bad.

The gaming industry has turned playing games into a job.

As someone who left after Black Ops 4, it feels like getting out of rehab. Watching the current state of CoD just reinforces how bad the cycle was.
@Weston
People laugh at others for being addicted to games, but these games are designed to exploit people with addictions, obsessions, and compulsions. It’s easy to say, ‘just stop,’ but it’s not that simple. These companies know what they’re doing, and it’s disgusting.
