Easy… games weren’t that detailed and ran at 30 fps, so you were reacting to blocky polygons.
Probably had better eyesight back then too!
Why do you think we’re all wearing glasses now?
Somehow, we did!
Which game is this?

Oops, didn’t mention it, but it’s Halo 2. Pretty iconic game.
Halo 2 is almost 20 years old… insane. I remember being at the midnight launch.
We’d spend entire afternoons on this level with the explosion skull on. One person in a tank, the other rocket jumping… so much fun.
Gaming back then was hardcore. We were legends.
The original Xbox could do 480p, 720p, and even 1080i. 480i looked pretty bad though, and for LAN parties, the best players always got stuck on the worst TV with the duke controllers.
Jumping from Sega to PlayStation was mind-blowing.
Lived without glasses most of my life even though I needed them. Same vibe lol.
Actually, a lot of TVs back then were only 240i/240p.

I think you’re right about TVs. But from what I read, Halo 2 ran natively at 480p on Xbox.

Yeah, I meant the TVs themselves, not the games.
Playing GoldenEye on N64 with 4 players in split screen… I couldn’t stand it!
If you think Halo was rough, try the original Medal of Honor on PS1. The AI was groundbreaking, but those faces were hilarious.
Seeing visuals improve over time was something else. We had text-based adventures, then simple graphics, then Doom and Quake. Unreal was mind-blowing… we don’t get those big leaps now. Ray tracing is nice, but it’s not the same.
Wow, this brings back memories.
