Ever held a shotgun but still felt like running? Metro 2033 fear is real

So, I was in Metro 2033, holding this big four-barrel shotgun, yet I was still scared out of my mind. Anyone else feel that way in this game?

It’s called a Librarian. Respect the nerds, even after the nukes.

I love how they named them after the libraries they hang around in. Makes me wonder what they’d call their scarier cousins in Metro Exodus… Scientists? Lab Rats?

@Tobi
Novosibirsk gave me so much anxiety. Every time I replay Exodus, I stop right before that part.

That room where you’re trapped with two of them… I had to pause the game to calm down.

@Rey
You gotta smoke them. It’s terrifying at first, but it feels amazing when they drop.

But aren’t we invading their space? Sneaking through feels more fair, and it’s way more intense.

Once I found out they could be killed, I just went berserk. I’m usually loaded with ammo by then, so they don’t scare me as much anymore.

@Tobi
Librarians are killable, and there’s even an achievement for it: Heavy Reader. Check it out on the Metro wiki.

Yeah, I killed one, but those floor holes make it too risky to try again!

I can’t replay Exodus because of the desert level. Driving around endlessly is so boring. Plus, I get this weird map bug in the vehicle that messes up my FOV. Every time!

Theory is they’re mutated gorillas from the Moscow zoo. Makes sense, right?

Would’ve been cooler if they were orangutans. You know, like Terry Pratchett’s Librarian.

I think the books imply they were once human. Artyom talks about how they pause when you look at them, as if they’re reminded of who they used to be.

@Oaklan
I doubt they’re human. The Dark Ones are definitely former humans, and that’s explored more clearly.

The book suggests it’s possible. Librarians mimic speech, and their behavior is oddly human-like. But gorilla origins make sense too.

@Ash
It’s cool they left it open for interpretation. Keeps us theorizing.

If they’re gorillas, staring them down seems wrong. Anyone who’s watched Animal Planet knows you don’t make eye contact with a gorilla!

I think they’re failed attempts at creating Dark Ones. Early experiments or something.

@Tobi
It’s a Terry Pratchett reference. The Librarian of Unseen University is an orangutan!
