Does Darksiders 2 Remaster on PS5 live up to the hype?

Darksiders 2 has always been one of my favorite games from the PS3 days. Playing the remaster on PS4 was great, but when the free PS5 upgrade dropped, I had to check it out.

The upgrade is amazing—4K at 60fps, and the lighting effects are stunning. It feels like a completely fresh experience, and I’m falling in love with it all over again. Am I the only one noticing more details in the armor and weapons, or is it just me?

If you loved the original, I think this is worth downloading. I know remasters get mixed reactions these days, but personally, I love revisiting upgraded versions of games I already enjoyed.

This game was awesome. I really wish I liked the third one as much as this. The third wasn’t bad, but Darksiders 2 just felt perfect.

The problem with 3 for me was making it a souls-like. If they kept the Zelda-style gameplay and Diablo-style loot, it would’ve been fine. The third one just felt like a chore to play.

@Reilly
They actually added an update to make it play more like the first two games.

Oh, interesting! I was thinking of getting the bundle to play all three. Might be worth it now.

How does that work? Is it a new difficulty mode or something?

Yeah, they added a ‘classic mode’ that lets you cancel animations. It makes the combat simpler, kind of like the first two games’ hack-and-slash style.

@Reilly
Honestly, I’m the opposite. I couldn’t even get through the first area of Darksiders 2, but I finished 1 and 3. The random loot and different combat style in 2 just ruined it for me, plus all the crashes.

@Reilly
That’s kind of the thing with Darksiders—it’s a different genre with every game.

@Reilly
I liked the first game’s combat more, but the RPG elements in Darksiders 2 won me over. Tried 3 but just couldn’t get into it.

@Reilly
I liked the simpler approach in 3. The earlier games felt a little bloated with so many different gameplay mechanics mashed together.

@Reilly
My biggest complaint about 3 was the map. Navigating without a compass felt annoying. I might give it another shot since I’ve gotten into Souls games after Elden Ring, but no plans yet.

Actually, there was a compass that pointed toward doors and objectives. It wasn’t a full map, but it did guide you for the main quest.

@Ira
Wow, really? Guess I missed that! Still, I really missed having a mini-map.

I loved the first game, but Darksiders 2 felt like a perfect sequel. I played about 30 minutes of DS3 and gave up. It felt clunky and weird. Honestly, I think Strife should’ve been the main character instead of Fury. Maybe I’ll try DS3 again after this.

Every game in the series has its flaws, but I still enjoy them all.

Hoping they finally give Strife the spotlight in the next game.

Death’s voice actor nailed it.
