As someone with migraines, I really wish there was more awareness about how painful these transitions are. It’s awful.
If nothing else, they sure make an impression…

Maybe the bright white fade means your character is hallucinating.

If that’s the case, I must be hallucinating IRL, too.

Like in Fallout 3, when your vision goes all green and spotty. Same vibe.
The Bethesda splash screen takes the cake for worst offenders.

Agreed. Doom Eternal in HDR is brutal. At least Sony seems to have figured out how to make their splash screens darker.
I love how OLED screens dim during full white scenes, but my miniLED just blinds me.

OLED helps, but it takes a second to dim, and by then the damage is already done.

Only older OLEDs have that delay. The new ones (like LG G3 or Samsung S95D) don’t.
I close my eyes, but the flash is so bright I can still see it!
Do devs not realize players have eyes? Smooth transitions, please!
Why not just fade to black instead? At least No Man’s Sky gives you the option.
Reminds me of the start of every big tournament match.
Didn’t they warn us to avoid the light?
Nostalgic for the PS1 startup? Not with that bright white flash!
The only explanation is that the people approving these are either blind or just love causing pain.
Aw, poor thing! How are you going to survive these transitions?
It’s probably just laziness in the industry. That’s my guess.
HDR is just pushing brightness levels too far. The old system of manual adjustments was way better.
