Which video game had the perfect ending, but the creators continued making sequels?

Why was the game’s ending so perfect?

Did the entire series get better or worse?

The games were still enjoyable to play, but they weren’t as fantastic as the original.

In my opinion, Gears of War 3 was a perfect ending for the franchise, and Gears 4 and 5 seem utterly unnecessary.

Gears 4 and 5 gave off a strong “somehow Palpatine returned” vibe. I played the original trilogy repeatedly but could never finish 4 or 5.

After Gears 3, Anya is dead, and these are some new characters you won’t care about, is what I remember!

They are making a prequel next, so apparently they learnt their lesson.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has a fantastic story on its own. While the sequels are still enjoyable, they completely undo the 1001 Arabian Nights magic of the original.

I will always remember the early 2000s, when all video games had to be grim and terrible. At that time, Prince of Persia, Warrior Within and Jak II were released, both of which had radically different tones from their originals.
