I love when mods can completely change a game into something entirely different, like how The Sims, Skyrim, Stardew Valley, or Crusader Kings 3 are transformed with mods. What games do you think have the absolute best mods? Any hidden gems I should check out?
Factorio is amazing for mods. The whole game was built to be moddable, to the point where even the main game is basically a mod!

The mods in Factorio are insane. Some of them, like PyMods, are just next-level madness.
Bethesda games are top-tier for mods: Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Fallout 4, and even Starfield now.

You can’t forget Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Stardew Valley.
@Oakley
Half-Life and Half-Life 2 deserve a mention too. Some of the mods for those games are legendary.

This video highlights some amazing mods for Bethesda games.

Bethesda’s games are buggy, but the modding community makes up for it tenfold.
@Rowan
True, though I’ll admit a lot of mods are NSFW. The Creation Engine being so moddable is what really made it possible for the community to thrive.

The Sims, on the other hand, wasn’t even built for mods. It’s the community that created all the tools for modding, and honestly, they’ve done amazing work.
Minecraft. Modpacks like GregTech: New Horizons are ridiculously detailed. There’s a mod for just about everything you can think of.

Sky Factory 2 gave me some of my best gaming memories back in 2016.
Cities: Skylines has an insane modding scene. You can pretty much build whatever city you dream of. Minecraft, of course, and I have fond memories of wild mods like nukes, Back to the Future, and Watchdogs for GTA IV.
@Luca
SimCity 4 also deserves a shoutout.
OG Half-Life has an active modding community to this day. It’s like a whole new game with some of the mods.

The Specialists mod was one of the coolest mods ever made.

Don’t forget Counter-Strike started as a Half-Life mod.

Yeah, but it’s wild how far mods can go. It’s like a whole game of its own.
RimWorld. The mods let you do absolutely anything, from running a cannibal cult to building fully functional spaceports.

I once modded in a system to make my colonists poop. My girlfriend didn’t stick around, but my colony thrived.
