Burnout is hands down the racing game series that needs to make a return. From the high-speed gameplay to the chaos of crash mode, there’s nothing quite like it. What do you guys think? Do you have a favorite Burnout game or moment?
I can’t remember which one it was, but the crash mode was incredible. And Paradise City was great, too.

Burnout: Revenge was the best for me—killer crash mode and an awesome soundtrack.
@Toryn
Crash mode started in Burnout 3.

I think Burnout 2 had it first.

Paradise City was fun, but the open-world aspect got frustrating sometimes. Having to check the map constantly really killed the flow.

They probably couldn’t use the Crazy Arrow system back then because of patents. Those have since expired, so maybe a new Burnout could fix that.

Didn’t the street signs indicate where to turn?

Spent so many hours on that game!

“I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out, smoke weed, drink diet soda, and play Burnout Revenge on the PS2?”
@Ray
Zach’s delivery on ‘P-esh-2’ gets me every time.
Crash mode in Burnout 3 was my childhood. I’d pay good money for a remaster.
Racing games today feel too realistic. I miss the more arcade-style fun of games like Underground 2 or Most Wanted. Tried NFS Heat and Unbound but couldn’t get into them.

Agreed! We used to have Burnout, Blur, and Split/Second. Now there’s not much. Wreckfest scratches some of that itch, though.

Arcade racers are just so much easier to pick up and enjoy. I’ve been loving Asphalt Extreme lately—super arcade-style and really fun.
Apparently, Burnout’s downfall was car manufacturers not wanting to show their cars getting wrecked. Why not just make up fake brands like Gerrari or Mamborgheni?

After Burnout, Criterion moved to NFS, which is basically Burnout with licensed cars now. Hot Pursuit (2010) and Rivals have a lot of Burnout DNA in them.
Yes, please! I didn’t even play the normal racing modes; crash mode was where it was at. Games don’t focus on arcade fun like this anymore.
Here’s my pitch for a new Burnout:
Burnout: Aftermath
- No open world—bring back diverse courses and arenas for crash mode.
- Add mechanics like Split/Second with destructible tracks and shortcuts.
- Use Driver: San Francisco-style gameplay where you can control NPC cars.
- Focus on quick, fun gameplay with local and online multiplayer.
What do you think?
@Toryn
These ideas are amazing. I’d buy this instantly.
