Looks like Gwent from Witcher 3 is getting a physical version. Thoughts?
Wait, I logged into Gwent online a couple of months ago, and it said the game was shut down?

That’s probably their way of nudging people to buy the physical cards now.

Oh… now it all makes sense.

The devs handed control of the online game to the community. They do updates and balance changes based on in-game surveys now.
@Greer
Interesting. So can I still play it on GoG?

Yeah, it’s still on GoG. Not super active, but there are about 1,000 players on at any time.

That’s still better than Payday 3’s player count, lol.

I tried recently, but I couldn’t find a match. I waited for almost an hour and gave up.
@Torin
What timezone are you in? In Europe, matches are quick to find.

I’m in Asia, GMT+8. Looks like it’s not very popular around here.

You might need to launch it through the GoG launcher. Steam matchmaking is kinda dead.
@Vesper
I did get it from GoG, but it’s the same story—no matches.

I’m in India, and I find matches instantly. Maybe try playing on mobile?

I’m buying the cards the moment they’re available.
Will this be based on Witcher 3’s Gwent or the standalone game?
Edit: Just read the details. It’s based on Witcher 3’s version of Gwent but with updated rules for balance during tournaments.

You could already buy physical Gwent cards, but they weren’t really playable. They were more for collecting.
@Winslow
I remember those! I thought they only came with special editions.

Yep, they came with Witcher 3’s special edition and the Blood and Wine DLC. I still have my set.
@Winslow
At least they didn’t make you win a tavern fight IRL to get those cards.
