Should More Games Do This in Dungeons?

In games, wouldn’t it be nice to know which path is the main one and which is the side one? Some games just throw you right in, and you end up triggering cutscenes and getting locked out of exploring. Shouldn’t they give a warning or something?

I actually prefer the opposite… like, give me a big sign saying, “Main path only, keep going if you’re done exploring!” Nothing more annoying than an unexpected cutscene locking the way.

More games should have a ‘point of no return’ notification. And not just right before the final mission either.

It IS a game, though…

Like saying ‘This book is too book-y’ :laughing:

@Sebastian
Witcher 3 did a pretty good job with this too.

Same with Cyberpunk 2077!

“MEET HANAKO AT EMBERS”… anyone else remember that?

@Sebastian
Days Gone does that twice - once halfway through, and again before the last mission. Super helpful.

@Sebastian
Can’t forget those Dark Souls fog gates!

@Sebastian
Sky: Children of the Light has a similar thing too.

After playing a few games, you kinda get that ‘side quest’ instinct. Like, 9 times out of 10, you know where the main quest is. But the one time you mess up… yeah, a notification would be nice.

@Oak
Right? I usually trust my gut. But it gets super frustrating when the obvious path turns out to be a decoy and I miss the actual side path. Happens way too often.

It’s like the devs are trolling us at this point.

Happens to me too! I go down what I think is the main path, then bam! It’s actually the side path. Happens way too much.

@Indigo
Or the path leads to a checkpoint, then you have to backtrack all the way to the obvious one with nothing but a locked door. It’s annoying!

And sometimes, instead of a door, it’s a story-important NPC, and I try to run, but too late… cutscene time.

@Oak
Right! And then I start second-guessing myself, thinking, “Did I miss something?” So frustrating!

I do that all the time! I keep going back and forth until I figure out which path to take. Drives me nuts haha.

@Oak
‘Side quest instincts’ are real! I’m always like, “Wait, this seems important… better go back!”

@Oak
This is where yellow paint on paths comes in handy! No paint? Keep exploring!
