What do y’all think about Nintendo’s latest announcement? Will this make upgrading worth it?
Think they’ll keep the same cartridge slot, or will it need adapters?

If they’re going for compatibility, they’ll keep the same carts. They might just change the color or something, so people know it’s a newer game.
@Fraser
But what if they change it so Switch 2 games can’t go in the old Switch? Then again, other consoles just throw an error if you put in the wrong disc.

3DS had a small tab to prevent DS games from fitting. If you tried, the DS just wouldn’t recognize anything.
@Jordan
And Game Boy Color games don’t run on the original Game Boy.

Sort of. It shows a screen saying it only works on Game Boy Color. Some even had custom messages.

A bit nitpicky, no?
@Jesse
Not really. There’s a big difference between it just not working and it showing a message. It’s actually pretty cool.

I think you’re on a different thread, this was about GBC on GB.

They could just add a small notch or something on the new carts so they don’t fit into the old Switch.
@Fraser
Probably like Game Boy/Game Boy Advance. Older games fit, newer ones have a notch.
@Fraser
I’m kinda nostalgic for the color-coded Game Boy cartridges.
@Fraser
They might go with a bigger cartridge for Switch 2 and sell an adapter for the older games.
@Fraser
Just like they did with DS and 3DS.
@Fraser
They could make them look different, like the old GB, GBC, and GBA carts.
@Fraser
Honestly, if you think they’ll make it confusing, you’re wrong. They’ll just make it easy to use.

Doubt they’d do a whole separate slot just for old games. Feels like a lot of cost for nothing.

Probably like the 3DS, they’d just add a lip to the cart so it won’t fit in the older one. But some will still try to force it in.
@Remy
Yep, someone tried that with a 3DS game once. The DS didn’t recognize it.
