I was the last person to ever buy something at the GameStop in Seekonk, MA. The store closed for good on January 18th at 9 PM, and the last game they sold was Star Wars: Battlefront 2 for the Xbox.
I remember checking out this store the weekend it opened. A whole shop just for video games felt like a dream come true. Over the years, I spent so much time and money here. I joined the rewards program and got GameInformer subscriptions within my first few visits.
I loved the midnight release events. Free pizza, meeting other gamers, and hanging out for hours waiting for the newest releases. My first midnight release was Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and they even handed out the game an hour early. I must’ve spent over 100 hours at those events and browsing the used games section.
I bought my first console with my own money here—a white Xbox One bundled with Sunset Overdrive. This place wasn’t just a store to me; it was part of my life. Now it’s gone, but I’m grateful for all the memories.

They already looked annoyed I was there so close to closing. If I’d asked for Battletoads, they probably would’ve snapped. But honestly, it might’ve been worth it!

This made me sad to read… but Battlefront 2 is a great final purchase. I’d totally play split-screen Galactic Conquest with you on Hard mode.
I’d love to play that with you someday if we ever meet! This store may be gone, but the memories will live on.
