Just started playing Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and I’m really enjoying it! The art style is absolutely stunning, and the world feels magical. I wasn’t expecting such a strong start! Anyone else played it?
Love the game, but I never saw the difficulty spike coming. I thought it was just going to be a cozy exploration game, and then suddenly, I’m fighting bosses with actual mechanics!

Same! 90% of the game plays like a Zelda-style adventure, then the bosses go full Dark Souls mode. It’s so jarring. If you’re going to have difficult bosses, at least keep the difficulty consistent!
@Harlan
No shame in lowering the difficulty. I learned that lesson with Uncharted 2’s final boss and never looked back!
I played Kena on the hardest difficulty for the first boss, then immediately lowered it for the second one. No regrets—made the game way more enjoyable.
@Noel
Was the second boss the blacksmith? If so, yeah… F*CK that boss.
The problem is that Souls games train you for their difficulty. Kena doesn’t. It’s easy for most of the game, then suddenly the bosses feel like you’re playing something else entirely.
@Harlan
That’s a really good point. Maybe it’s a ‘Halo 2 effect’—the devs got so good at their own game that they accidentally made bosses way harder than they realized.

I finished it on Master difficulty… almost rage-quit multiple times. There’s a reason I don’t play Souls-likes.
@Arin
Yeah, I love this game, but going for the platinum trophy was brutal.
This game tricks you with its cute art style, then beats you down! I played it on the Steam Deck, and it ran great.

You’re right! I figured it would just be a chill adventure game, but nope! They quickly teach you that it’s Pixar Dark Souls instead.
@Van
I’ve beaten every FromSoftware Souls-like. I rage-quit Kena. Loved the visuals, but man… the frustration was real.
@Van
Try it on ‘Master’ difficulty if you really want to suffer. I’m a Souls veteran, and this game still kicked my ass. Not ashamed to say I cheesed a boss after two hours of dying over and over. The artifact that heals you on parries saved me.

One of those rare games where the difficulty settings actually matter. Hard mode is actually hard—not just ‘slightly less easy.’
Such an underrated game!

Agreed! More people need to play this one.
I wish this game was longer… or that it had a sequel. I’m not a huge Souls-like fan, but this was a nice balance of challenge and story. If you liked the recent God of War games, you’d probably enjoy this.
I definitely lost my mind a few times with those boss fights. Much harder than I expected, but still a great game.
The visuals in this game are absolutely stunning.
One of the few games that had me switching between intense focus and full-on tears. Incredible journey.

You adopted it? Are you Kena’s mom/dad now?
