Best Steam games for a 'LAN' party?

Can anyone recommend me games which are good/perfect for the context of a LAN party (doesn’t have to be ‘LAN’ - if it’s online only it’s absolutely fine).

It doesn’t matter if it’s a game with a competitive nature or just for fun.

2 important things:

  • It should be kinda cheap.
  • The more players, the better.

Magicka (the first one)
We usually end up in so much chaos that we don’t really progress, but I think that’s the point of the game.

I came to suggest this. When it came out, my uni friends and I had an absolute blast (literally, a lot of the time) playing it together in the same room.

Problem with this is that it hates modern hardware. My buddy and I tried recently and just couldn’t get a stable game.

Unreal Tournament!

Worms Armageddon

CS 1.6. Then get the Warcraft mods or superhero mods.

Yes, that’s how old I am!

Duck Game is just freaking amazing, especially when you are all together, and it has an 8-player mode now.

Gang Beasts can be good fun.

Wreckfest. It’s just full-on carnage.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition. Very fun to play with friends in LAN, whether against each other or against people online. Live and active online community, and the game is often discounted. An all-time classic if you’re a fan of RTS.

Deep Rock Galactic

Killing Floor 2 is on sale for a buck fifty and supports 6 players. Classic zombie shoot-'em-up.

Dawn of War 1 with expansions, Civ 5 or 6 if you can get them on sale, Terraria.

Barony - Multiplayer roguelike dungeon crawler with a great retro style and tons of class/race combinations

Terraria - Try some of the Secret World Seeds

Among Us - Train to become elite corporate assassins, or something.

Overcooked 2!

StarCraft 2 (it’s free), not on Steam but nothing beats StarCraft LAN parties. Borderlands 2 or 3 (pretty cheap, good co-op). Garry’s Mod (cheap and absolute loads of content). L4D2, Arma, even GTA Online.
