Anyone else feel Darktide gets what B4B doesn’t?

TL;DR: Darktide nails the horde shooter feel that Left 4 Dead started way better than Back 4 Blood ever could.

Back 4 Blood tried to be a spiritual successor to L4D but failed in almost every way. Meanwhile, Fatshark’s Tide trilogy has mastered what makes this genre shine.

In Darktide, special enemies are fewer, but each one is unique both visually and gameplay-wise. For example, Scab Gunners are armored and use lasers, while Dreg Gunners are unarmored with ballistic weapons. Bosses like Plague Ogryn and Daemonhost feel completely different from each other.

Sound design? A+ in Darktide. Every elite enemy is loud and clear. Snipers don’t talk but are obvious with their laser sights and sound cues.

B4B’s wound system is clunky. Darktide makes it way better by letting you heal multiple times and even regenerate with certain builds. Also, no random weapon drops mid-match—your gear is set before starting, and recent updates make getting ideal gear much easier.

Ammo is plentiful, and classes like Psyker don’t even rely on it. Instead, they balance Peril, which feels like a fun mechanic.

Thanks for reading my ramblings about a game I love.

Darktide’s atmosphere is amazing. The heretics never shutting up before attacking is so creepy yet hilarious.

I hate Trappers so much, but their “hehe gonna get youuu” line cracks me up.

Vermintide 2 is also a fantastic game, especially if you like Warhammer fantasy.

Vermintide 2 actually got me into the Tide games. Saltzpyre is my favorite, and the Warrior Priest DLC is amazing.

“HOLY SHITMAN, BLESS MY RAVAGED BOOTY” is all I can hear now.

@Drew
I started with Vermintide 1, which was decent, but Vermintide 2 is better in every way. Darktide does justice to the 40k setting though.

Fatshark really understands Warhammer.

Darktide’s gameplay loop is so addictive, but I get why some might not love it.

The characters and their dialogue really keep me hooked.

Back 4 Blood’s card system was clunky. Darktide just flows better, and builds feel like real choices.

I liked B4B more than L4D, but I get why people didn’t. The cards were great in theory but poorly implemented.

@Tobin
The card system was nice for progression, but mods and better modes could’ve made B4B a lot more memorable.

@Tobin
The original sequential card draw system had its charm. They shouldn’t have scrapped it.
