Looking for recommendations for games like Serious Sam. I’ve tried some ‘boomer shooters,’ but they don’t really scratch the same itch. Serious Sam has this unique vibe with ancient architecture, open plains, etc. Are there other games that capture this feel?
Check out the Painkiller series. It’s not quite the same but has a similar fast-paced feel with a darker, horror twist.

Painkiller is super underrated. It’s one of my favorites!
@Vance
Yeah, it’s such a hidden gem. The Stake Gun alone is worth it—it’s so satisfying!

I liked Painkiller, but I wasn’t a fan of the level design where you get locked into areas until you clear all the enemies. Still, the maps are gorgeous! My favorites were the Cathedral, Train Station, and City on Water.

Same here! Running into a horde with the blender weapon is hilarious every time.
The Shadow Warrior remakes are worth a try. Pretty fun and chaotic.
I’m playing Serious Sam 4 co-op with a buddy. Next, we’re planning on trying Earth Defense Force 5 and 6. Haven’t played yet, but my friend says they’re kind of similar.
Immortal Redneck might be your thing. It’s got a similar Egyptian vibe to Serious Sam but mixes in roguelike elements.
You could try Painkiller, Vampire Hunters, Will Rock, Immortal Redneck, the newer Doom games, or Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun.

Avoid Will Rock. It feels like a cheap Serious Sam knockoff. Everything else is a great choice, especially Painkiller.
Will Rock is an older game that’s basically Serious Sam with a different skin. Could be fun for a bit.
Edit: Oh, and the Borderlands series has some similarities too!
Nitro Family might be worth a shot.
Bulletstorm is great. It’s more modern but has the over-the-top action and humor you might like.
The Shadow Warrior remakes might be perfect for you.
Hard Reset. It’s not exactly the same but has a similar energy.
Prodeus is a fantastic mix of old-school Doom and new-school Doom. It’s not as silly as Serious Sam but still a lot of fun.
The newer Doom games, especially Doom Eternal. The pace and constant movement are unmatched.
Warhammer 40K: Boltgun and Shadow Warrior are both solid options.
Bulletstorm is packed with crazy enemies, big levels, and hilarious lines. It might be just what you’re looking for.
